Ceramics - Genital Sculptures
It often feels like women's bodies are constantly under attack- from the amount of hair our bodies grow to the natural shape our vulvas form. I wanted to make a series that really showed the range that exists in the shape of women's vulvas, and how they are each unique. To me, that's where the beauty is.
In my search for inspiration for my vulva sculptures, I realized that I had not seen a lot of flaccid penises in the various places I had looked for artful inspiration. I reflected on how that echoes life. Men are taught that their penises are only worthy if they are big, hard, and thick. Flaccid cocks are vulnerable. They are soft. Not at their “full potential.” I think there's a power in normalizing a soft cock, in reassuring a man that his penis truly isn't the be all, end all.
